Kara is a Communications student with concentrations in Sports Communications and Advertising who has interned at the Center for Sports Communications and the New York Rangers. Interning at the Center for Sports Communications has enabled her to gain hands on experience within different areas of communications besides the ones that she has been studying, such as radio and production. Kara has been fortunate enough to improve upon the skills regarding the Adobe Creative Suite and gain experience and knowledge in the areas of social media, event planning, and public relations. This has led to her having a more comprehensive knowledge of how to effectively use social media from both a live platform having done it for, “The Classroom,” the centers radio show as well as from an everyday basis. In terms of event planning, Kara has gained knowledge in how to promote an event, execute one, and the work that goes into planning and making sure that all of the necessary steps leading up to the event fall into place. Interning for the Rangers this past summer in their Public Relations department allowed her to gain knowledge in game day preparation and how the media really does play an important role and impacts a variety of aspects from the team point of view. She was able to apply knowledge in the classroom such as credentialing, press conferences, and game day statistics. Also, with the Rangers she got to be an assistant editor for the media guide and be a part of the layout process and learn how one is produced. Her work goals are to gain an insight into the area of sports and learn as much as I can and gain experience in several areas in which sports are involved. She hopes to one day work for the communications or marketing department of the NFL, United States Olympic Committee, or for a sports marketing and representation company.
