Google+  is Google’s version and a way to rival Facebook.  It was launched in 2011, but many people still do not know what it is or how to use it properly.  There are a number of different social outlets available on the platform including a newsfeed (stream), recommendation engine (sparks), video chat (hangouts), and friend management groups (circles).  In addition users can play games and post photos.  People who use Google+ say that it is a great way to share data and integrate things such as documents and calendars.  Others have said that it is basically a mash of Twitter and Facebook.  In order to sign up one need to have a Gmail or Google Apps account.  From there a user can create profiles, circles,  and stream and share content.

instagram Brand Ads….

Instagram has taken the idea of sharing a picture to a whole new level as now they will allow brands the opportunity to get a little more creative.  The social media company is opening up the platform to allow brands to create and post advertisements on their Instagram accounts.  Levi was one of the first companies to benefit from this saying that after a nine day period they were able to reach about seven million people and have seen their followers increase since beginning the brand advertisements.  Other companies that have benefited include Taco Bell and Ben & Jerry’s.  It is fairly new so a lot of brands have yet to experiment as they are waiting for results to see if it is successful.  However, Instagram is providing another platform to highlight brand messages and help to channel specific messages across one of the most popular social media platforms today.

Twitter Chats are live Twitter events that are moderated and focused around a topic such as sports, entertainment, or other types of events.  Hashtags are used to help filter the conversation and there is usually a set time for the moderator to begin the chat and others to engage in conversation.  Participation is based on Tweeting during the designated times and using the hashtag.  When hosting a Twitter Chat or participating there are a few things to remember.  Pick a hashtag that correlates with the topic and use the hashtag.  Other things to consider my the moderator is to set a time, promote the chat, pick engaging topics for discussion, and make sure yourself is participating in the chat as well. Utilizing a Tweet deck can also help to be able to respond to participants and see everything that is going on.  The host can create different category segments to allow them to see multiple things at a time including news feed, notifications, and all of the tweets that include the designated hashtag.
